Do’s and Don’ts of Wooden Handicrafts

Handicraft lovers look for items everywhere that would make their home spaces and office look more in sync. In fact, they would pick handicraft items online and whenever they go out shopping for something. Be it wooden handicrafts, metal crafts, or any other but we’ll be focusing on the former in this blog. When you are well-versed with handicraft wooden gift items, you know how to manage them, take care of them, buy them, and obviously gift them. However, when you are new to all this, you need to refer to a go-to guide that will help you pick the best wooden handicrafts and maintain them very well.

This blog is my personal experience with the wooden handicrafts and I will share what to do and what not to do with them in order to extend their shelf-life. Go ahead and find out the same below.

DO’s

Safeguard your wooden handicrafts with linseed oil

We all know that wood is perishable and that can happen through a lot of ways (regardless of the time-frame). Linseed oil comes in really handy when you want to water-proof and oil-proof your beautiful wooden furniture and other fancy items. With the help of a brush, you can spread linseed oil on the entire surface of the photo frames, table-tops, and other wooden handicrafts and let the oil soak in so that water or other oils wouldn’t harm the charm of the same.

Use a DRY cloth to wipe off the dust

Well, this might come across as an obvious tip but most of the people take this step for granted and while using a damp cloth to wipe the dust from other items, they use the same cloth to wipe wooden handicrafts. And we all know that wood doesn’t go well with moisture. So, if you want to keep your wooden handicrafts looking good as new, use a dry cloth to wipe off the dust.

DON’TS

Do not expose the wooden handicrafts to direct sunlight

I am not saying that you should keep all your wooden furniture in the dark where there’s no sunlight but keeping the smaller handicraft items online in the direct sunlight can harm the outlook of the same. The polish may wear out sooner than you think and the glow will wear-off too. So, make sure you keep in a place that is dry and lit but not excessively.

Do not place the wooden handicrafts in moisture

Like I mentioned earlier that moisture and wood don’t go along very well, you should never place your showpiece made out of wood where there’s a lot of moisture or water for that matter. It will dampen the wood over time and reduce the shelf life of the item.

  1. Nice Blog. I have a collection of handcrafted products and this blog is helpful for me. Some of them purchased off-line and now I’ve started buying online handicraft items. I also visited the store and checked the collection. It is awesome and in the future, I’ll surely buy something from this unique collection.
